What is the best Christmas song of all time?
It’s not Christmas without a bit of Mariah Carey, Wham! or Michael Bublé. But which star shines the brightest in the hearts of the UK? Who tops the Christmas charts? Opinium Pulse asked 2,132 UK adults, via the Opinium Omnibus, to find out and here are the results:
⭐ 26% voted for “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues
⭐ 16% voted for “Last Christmas” by Wham!
⭐ 12% voted for “Merry Xmas Everybody” by Slade
19% of 18-34 year olds voted for “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, almost four times more than over 65s (5%).
Londoners are the biggest fans of “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms (10%). Whereas, Northerners are more likely to prefer “Stop the Cavalry” by Jonah Lewie (8%).
Interestingly, when we asked the UK what their least favourite Christmas song is, Wales were the most united in their response with “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey and “Stop the Cavalry” by Jonah Lewie, both receiving 10% of votes.
