US public divided on government handling of Coronavirus as trust in political leaders wavers
The Coronavirus crisis presents us with an entirely new reality from week to week. To keep a pulse on the public’s perceptions of the government’s handling of the situation, Opinium surveyed a nationally representative sample of 2,006 U.S. adults aged 18+ between March 20th and 25th. The survey was conducted online.
Here are our top 3 findings:
- The US public views the government’s handling of the Coronavirus crisis through an entrenched partisan lens. Those who put Trump in office remain steadfast in their support of his reaction to this health crisis.
- The US public is more concerned about an economic slowdown from crisis than getting ill and needing hospital treatment.
- More people in the US now actively distrust Donald Trump on Coronavirus than those who trust him. Meanwhile, trust in medical experts like Dr Anthony Fauci, supersedes party lines.
