Support for football terracing
- 43% of football fans support safe standing, compared to just 31% who oppose it
- Those aged 35-54 support the move the most (50%)
There was huge disparity amongst the regions in terms of support for the plan. 51% of fans in the East of England support the move, but the luxury of the Stamford Bridge, Emirates and White Hart Lane has meant that just 39% of Londoners support the reintroduction of standing.
Safety isn?t a concern as 37% believe that the standing areas would be safe, with just 29% disagreeing. However, there is a current problem of standing in all-seater stadiums as 40% believe more should be done to combat those who stand when they should be sitting.
The research also shows that almost half (44%) believe that all-seater stadiums has affected the atmosphere within grounds.
Opinium Research carried out an online survey of 2,007 UK adults aged 18+ from 25 – 28 March 2011. Results have been weighted to nationally representative criteria.
