Jeremy Hunt ‘can chip away’ at rival’s fragile support
Conservative voters are not short of reasons to back Boris Johnson. The frontrunner leads Jeremy Hunt seven-to-one as the candidate most likely to take the UK out of the EU and leads by three-to-one as the candidate most likely to beat Jeremy Corbyn. Despite this, Boris Johnson’s support amongst Tory voters is surprisingly fragile.
We found that 52 per cent of 2017 Conservative voters would vote for Boris Johnson if they had the choice, whilst 30 per cent would cast their ballot for Jeremy Hunt.
Despite Mr Johnson having substantial leads on issues dear to the Conservative fold, a fundamental problem is that less than half (47 per cent) think he would actually make the best prime minister.
