Government school sports legacy support

We asked our panellists, ?Since the current government took office in May 2010, have you noticed any increase or decrease in the level of government support for sport in schools and local communities??

Among all respondents 2% feel the level of government support has increased a great deal and 8% think it has increased a little.

However, 29% think support has neither increased nor decreased, 13% think it has decreased a little and 13% think it has decreased a lot. This makes 55% who think that the government has not increased support for sport in schools.

35%, an appreciable proportion of respondents, said they don?t know, so we analyzed the results among parents of children under 18, who might be expected to be more aware of the government?s policy on school sport.

Here we find that 64% of parents think that the government has not increased support for school sport ? 10% think the level of support has decreased a lot, 18% say it has decreased a little and 36% say it has stayed the same.

The proportion saying support for sport has increased is also higher among parents with 4% saying it has increased a lot and 11% saying it has increased a little.
