Talking (or not) about the menopause in the Netherlands
Around 1.8 million working women in the Netherlands are currently going through menopause yet despite this it is a topic which is often misunderstood and rarely discussed.
Opinium Amsterdam, in partnership with the affect lab, set out to change this.
Speaking to a nationally representative sample of Dutch adults, Opinium Amsterdam explored attitudes towards, and experience of, the menopause in the Netherlands, portrayals of the menopause in the media as well as perceptions of the menopause in the workplace.
The research revealed that nearly two-thirds (61%) of the Dutch population say that they have little, very little or no knowledge of the menopause. Amongst those with little to no knowledge, two-fifths were women.
The reasons for this lack of knowledge are varied and complex, but this report starts to shine a light on some of them. We encourage you to download it, read it and share the results.
