Opening the Conversation: Mental Wellbeing at Work

With the workplace being somewhere many of us spend most of our time, it’s important that employers step up and help support their employees. We surveyed 2000 UK workers to understand mental wellbeing at work, and help employers accelerate change in their organisations and understand how they can and should be supporting employees.

Although progress has been made over the past few years, there’s still a way to go, with 35% of UK employees saying that they are not offered a single thing by their workplace to support their mental wellbeing, and even more worrying is that this group are more likely to have below average mental wellbeing, as measure by the academically validated Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS).

Looking at managers specifically, we found that 49% of managers would not know how to support someone struggling with their mental health at work. But promisingly, managers recognise that businesses need more support and education around mental wellbeing in the workplace (77% of managers).

We hope that this audit not only raises awareness of this important issue, but also provides a tool for employers to listen to their workforce and help them nurture a company culture that allows employees to bring their full selves to work.

Mental wellbeing isn’t just about surviving, it’s about thriving.
