Code Red: Period Poverty in the Netherlands

Two years since our ground-breaking study into period poverty in Amsterdam, Opinium has partnered with Neighborhood Feminists to conduct the with the largest-ever nationally representative research of period poverty in the Netherlands.

The results were startling.

In the Netherlands over the past year, 13% of people who have menstruated in the last 12 months have been unable to afford to pay for period products at some point.

A further 21% of people who have menstruated in the last 12 months say they have managed to pay for period products but found it difficult to do so.

A quarter (25%) said that they are finding it increasingly difficult to afford to buy period compared to the previous six months, rising to 29% in Amsterdam.

So how do we address this matter of equality, dignity, and public health? Click on the pdf below to dive into our full report, for a closer look at the data and our recommendations for the next, necessary steps.
